With a pleasing result last game Taunton Revolution were looking to better their record on their home court, and played hosts to the visiting Exmouth Jesters II crew on Sunday 26th October, in Taunton. The visiting team had a good squad and a nice youthful mix of energy and skills, and from the tip off the game was close.

Marcin Gladys for Taunton was off to a great start at both ends of the floor and finished the first quarter with 6 points. For the first five minutes the visiting team matched Taunton, but towards the end of the quarter the Revolution stepped up their defence to extend to an 8 point lead going into the second quarter, helped by 5 players getting on the score sheet.

Taunton again relied on their defence to keep them in the game while their offence slowed down, and approaching half time they had help the opposition team to just 20 points. with almost every player on the Revolution score sheet the scoring was well balanced with everyone contributing. The youth of the Jesters would be apparent as they were consistently out-rebounding Taunton on their defensive glass, but despite some great play they struggled to stay close.

As the second half started, Pete Williams would start the quarter where he finished the last hitting another three pointer, and Captain Marc Eggleton would make 2 more in the quarter (4 in the game) to keep the Revolution lead as comfortable as possible. As the quarter ended though the Exmouth side made a really good push and would take advantage of some Revolution miscues.

They carried this into the final quarter and the Revolution would be held scoreless for the first five minutes of the 4th. Matt Scott-Davies, who was a consistent threat all game long, continued his fine play and helped keep Revolution ahead by just 5 points with Taunton’s first make in the fourth, followed closely by an important three from Eggleton which extended the gap. After the Jesters made their run Taunton managed to beat the press towards the end of the game and Scott-Davies & Gladys would be the beneficiaries of some nice fast breaks towards the end. Another great all round performance. Final Score 57-44 to Taunton who extend to a 3-1 record.

Scorers on the night – Matt Scott-Davies – 14, Marc Eggleton – 12, Marcin Gladys – 11, Pete Williams – 6, Greg Siwicki, Ben Thompson & Toby Veale all with 4 points.

Taunton Revolution entered their third game of the season with some of the much familiar faces making a appearance, including the first game this season for Marcin Gladys back in the squad.

Unable to play due to injury, Revolution Captain Marc Eggleton would Coach the game and hope to provide some guidance to the team from the side and have an impact on the success of the game, even despite being able to suit up for the battle.

The first quarter was a decidedly one sided affair with Jon Howlett and Matt Acott connecting for 5 three pointers and a positive all round effort on ball movement. In the second, the Revolution would utilise their large selection of players and Pete Williams would add to his confidence and step up to make two consecutive big three pointers mid way through the quarter.

However, the North Devon side would keep the game close with some good defensive plays and a solid rebounding structure. Acott & Howlett would continue the hot shooting leading the team and finishing the half with 8 three pointers between them, and push the scoreline to 41-35 in favour of Taunton.

Matt Scott-Davies gave revolution a much needed explosive spark at the beginning of the 2nd half when it came to running at the opposition and scored 5 points in quick succession.

Marcin Gladys played an excellent rebounding game in the 3rd & 4th quarters and helped the Revolution get some size in the paint and still found time to contribute 7 much needed points in the game.

In the 4th Revolution would get into a little foul trouble but with the opponents missing 8 of their last 10 free throws, the game was sealed with some more good defense played by Taunton Revolution. In the last quarter the visitors would be half to only 9 points.

Final score 71-59 to Taunton. Scorers – Matt Acott – 19, John Howlett – 16, Matt Scott Davies – 7, Marcin Gladys – 7, Greg Siwicki – 7, Pete Williams – 6, Marcus Worth – 3, Alex Reid – 2, Ross Hughes – 2, Murray Heath – 2.

The second game of the season would see the Revolution guys take themselves down to Crediton to face the local side and their daunting 7′ 3″ centre.

With Taunton a little under-sized as a team they would need to rely on good ball movement and decent shooting from range if they were to stand a chance. The tip inevitably went to Crediton and they struck the first blow going up 4-0, however this was quickly answered with a four point play from Revolution Guard Matt Acott to tie the game.

The rest of the quarter would see the teams trade baskets, with Crediton ending the quarter with an 8 point run and leading 18-12. In the second session every Revolution push was met by a Crediton score; despite Revolution taking the lead several times they could not hold on. Acott continued his strong play, and Matt Scott-Davies also provided great energy and scoring from the bench, but the size of Crediton meant too many easy scores at close range. The Revolution offence was really struggling and by half time the score was 27-36 in favour of the home team. Leading the way for Crediton were Williams with 14 and the 7′ 3″ Lewis with 14.

In the second half, Taunton picked up the scoring but were again helpless in the middle; Lewis continued the onslaught and despite Acott, Scott-Davis and Ben Williams all contributing well for Taunton, there was very little else coming from other sources in terms of points. Matt Acott would round out the game scoring Tauntons’ only 6 points in the fourth, and ultimately be voted MVP for the Revolution on the night. However it wasn’t enough, and the combined 54 from the Crediton duo of Lewis and second big man Wieczorek would take the game 74-52. Top Scorers for Taunton – Acott 22, Williams 13, Scott-Davies 9.

The Taunton Revolution Basketball Team began their campaign in the Exeter Division 2 this season with a home game against a young Weymouth side. As the game began Weymouth secured the tip, and then following their miss the Revolution wasted no time with Captain Marc Eggleton connecting on a pair of three pointers to get Taunton off to a great start. The energetic Weymouth side kept the game close at the start by working hard on the boards and getting second chances. For Taunton, Ben Williams would also start strong helping Taunton open up a 21-16 lead after one. In the second quarter, Taunton would slow down the Weymouth team with their defence and force them into tough shots. forwards Alex Reid and Toby Veale would contribute well, and Marcus Worth would also come off the bench and give Taunton a good presence inside. By the half Taunton had extended their lead to 39-25.

In the second half Taunton worked on getting all players involved. With 9 players now on the score sheet the ball being shared well however the youthful Weymouth team would make a bit of a comeback capitalising on any Taunton mistakes. A few careless turnovers would help Weymouth get closer but into the fourth quarter Taunton would get back on track. Ben Williams continued to be consistent and everyone contributed well for the Revolution. The Weymouth team would be held to just 7 in the fourth and Taunton would end up taking the game 62-41. Top scorers on the day would be Ben Williams with 13 points, Marc Eggleton with 12 points and both Matt Acott and Alex Reid with 9 points.
